Newport News, Va. –(July 2, 2008) – International Communications Group (ICG) announced today that it has begun production of its new NxtLink 120A and 220A Iridium communications systems. Both systems now support both Future Air Navigation System (FANS) and Controller Pilot Data Link Communications (CPDLC) as well as Aircraft Communications Addressing and Reporting System (ACARS) requirements. The NxtLink 120A is designed for use on the Flight Deck while the 220A serves both the Flight Deck and the Flight Crew.
“The NxtLink 120A single channel transceiver is an ideal choice for aircraft that require a dedicated voice channel along with a dedicated data-link circuit with full MCDU integration,” explained Jeff Saucedo, ICG’s Vice President of Sales. “The NxtLink 220A provides an additional channel to support non-flight deck requirements such as cabin crew voice or passenger communications services. As the ‘office in the sky’ concept (which duplicates all of the capabilities available on the ground) becomes the standard for business aircraft, we anticipate a significant increase in the demand for cabin voice and data services. That’s where the NxtLink 220A is the ideal choice. The choice between the two systems depends on the configuration of the flight deck or the communication demands of the passengers and crew,” he added.
ICG’s NxtLink 120A incorporates two Iridium transceivers with an internal CTU that permits a regular telephone connection for voice and data. It’s the logical choice for flight decks that desire MCDU dialing services and direct audio control panel connection. The NxtLink 220A is a three-transceiver device which combines dual channels of global voice and data-link service with a third Short Burst Data (SBD) channel. Both the 120A and 220A devices offer pre-emption and priority features to permit the flight crew to always access a channel.
