European legislation will see the final flight of a British-registered passenger Douglas DC-3 on 13 July this year. Although currently approved to operate by the UK Civil Aviation Authority, this will not be the case when EU-OPS becomes law at 0001 hours on 16 July 2008. Although the regulations also affect other classic aircraft in the Air Atlantique fleet, including he de Havilland Dragon Rapide and Scottish Aviation Twin Pioneer, because they are significantly smaller than the DC-3, the regulations which they must meet are far less onerous. These aircraft can be expected to continue to fly on.

PRESS BRIEFING COVENTRY AIRPORT (West)
Tuesday 12 February
10:30 for 11:00
Mike Collett, Chairman of Air Atlantique Classic Flight, Britain’s only DC-3 operator, will brief the media on the situation and unveil Classic Flight’s 2008 summer programme for both the DC-3 and the other aircraft types in the fleet.
A full programme of passenger flights is planned for the summer at the following airports. The DC3 will be retired after the Royal International Air Tattoo (RIAT) on Sunday 13th July. The aircraft’s expected final appearances will be unveiled on Tuesday.
Some 12,000 Douglas DC3s were built and only a handful remain airworthy in Europe. Summer 2008 is the 60th anniversary of the aircraft’s greatest triumph, the relief of Berlin by air in 1948, the Berlin Air Lift.
Air Atlantique Classic Flight hopes to make available a DC3 next Tuesday for a media flight, and also will run the Avro Shackleton(seats available on this aircraft as well) and expects to have a de Havilland Rapide and de Havilland Dove on line. The summer programme will also include a Scottish Aviation Twin Pioneer, the aircraft currently under maintenance, with a heavy summer programme planned.
